Our Story
Our story starts in a small town in the middle of the Caribbean Sea in the Island of Puerto Rico called Jayuya. In this town like any other town in Puerto Rico you can feel like you are in paradise. It has the best people, music, food, and things to do any day at any time. This is where I grew up and spent my childhood with my family and friends. I grew up with around 80 family members across 4 generations, close to me. I would meet more family members even until today.This made me the person that I am throughout all my family guidance and the skills that they taught me. This is where most of the recipes made here come from. As a teenager my parents moved to Tallahassee, FL for a better future for all of us. This was and it is still is, a big cultural shock for us.
Longing for my homeland I wanted to bring that tropical feel here someday and what better way to do it than with Puerto Rican cuisine. This is where the idea of El Familión RDC comes to play. This is where we want everyone to become a Familión which simply means “a big family”. RDC stands for Raices Del Campo which translates to “Roots of the Country”. This is because that is what I want to bring into the table. This is some of the many reasons why we decided to be named El Familión. No matter if there are differences, through food we can all unite and create positive vibes for the community.
